Partnership with TALQ

Department of Applied Computer Science has partnered with TALQ.

The TALQ Consortium aims to set a globally accepted standard for management software interfaces to control and monitor heterogeneous outdoor lighting networks.

TALQ generates answers to the main challenges of outdoor lighting as reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions worldwide, increasing cost efficiency and accelerating the introduction of LED luminaires in road and urban lighting.

Samsung AppCup Winners

Oskar Kuligowski and Ziemowit Rachwał, members of the SHADER Reseach Club at the Department of Applied Computer Science, are the winners of this year's Samsung AppCup.

The awarded application is called 'Bring Them Water', and belongs to the category of puzzle video games.

Department Profile

The tasks of the Department of Applied Computer Science are:

  • teaching computer science on the academic level - Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree and PhD; we also offer post-graduate education, being the only unit at AGH which has implemented post-graduate computer science education funded partially by The European Union; this shows our efficiency and concern about the highest quality of education; this was also confirmed by a positive opinion of external auditors,
  • executing advanced research and development projects for domestic and foreign institutions,
  • advising, expert opinions, consulting in computer science-related issues.

The Department of Applied Computer Science cooperates closely with governmental organisations and public administration (among others - the Marshal's Office of the Malopolska Voivodship, the Energy Regulatory Office) as well as with the industry (among others - GE, ABB, Schreder, Philips and Fideltronik). One of the most important projects ran by the Department is Green AGH Campus. It is a Smart City Project, conducted together with the Marshal's Office of the Malopolska Voivodship and GE. The Department of Applied Computer Science coordinates the implementation of pilot Smart Grid solutions (including intelligent lighting systems). One of the aims is to create an integrated laboratory for energy systems, in order to allow monitoring of the efficiency of diverse renewable energy sources in the Malopolska Voivodeship.

The highest level of research and teducation iis also proved by the membership of our employees in numerous organizations, such as:

  • Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI),
  • Association for Computing Machinery (ACM),
  • Foundation for Intelligent Physical Agents (FIPA),
  • Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE),
  • Polish Information Processing Society (Polskie Towarzystwo Informatyczne)(PTI),
  • Polish Academy of Sciences (Polska Akademia Nauk) (PAN),
  • The Polish Artificial Intelligence Society (Polskie Stowarzyszenie Sztucznej Inteligencji) (PSSI).
